My client, a leading manufacturing company in the West of Ireland, is seeking an experienced Strategic Buyer to join their purchasing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused procurement professional who enjoys supplier negotiations, strategic sourcing and working collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams.
The Role
As Strategic Buyer, you will play a key role in developing and implementing purchasing strategies that deliver cost savings, improve supplier performance and support business growth. Working closely with engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams, you will identify sourcing opportunities, manage supplier relationships and contribute to the successful delivery of purchasing objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sourcing and purchasing strategies to achieve cost reduction and productivity targets.
- Lead supplier negotiations to achieve the best commercial outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers.
- Identify and implement material cost-saving opportunities.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) projects from a purchasing perspective.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain teams to identify value engineering and sourcing opportunities.
- Monitor supplier performance and implement improvement initiatives where required.
- Support purchasing budgets, forecasting and cost management activities.
- Ensure purchasing processes, supplier standards and logistics protocols are followed.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the purchasing function.
About You
You are a commercially focused procurement professional with excellent negotiation skills and a proven ability to build strong supplier relationships. You enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and are motivated by delivering measurable commercial results.
What We're Looking For
- Degree or Diploma in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Business, Economics or a related discipline.
- Previous purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing environment is essential.
- Experience within electronics manufacturing would be a distinct advantage.
- Strong commercial negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Experience delivering cost reduction and sourcing projects.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations and supply chain functions.
- Excellent analytical, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.
