My client in the West of Ireland is looking for a skilled professional to join a leading medical technology innovator. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact healthcare access and equity while driving advancements in a connected, compassionate world. At the Galway Research & Development Department, the focus is on creating cutting-edge medical devices in areas like Coronary, Structural Heart, PVH, Cardiac Rhythm Management, and Neuromodulation, with engineers directly contributing to the development of innovative, life-changing products.
Your Role Will Include:
- Leading, inspiring, and developing a world-class engineering team responsible for designing and creating pioneering transcatheter medical devices and procedures.
- As part of the senior management team, you will contribute to the ongoing expansion and evolution of the organization, ensuring the team has the necessary skills to achieve consistent results.
- Working closely with internal and external experts to maintain and enhance clinical and technical expertise, contributing to strategic planning efforts.
- Building and nurturing relationships across different sites and functions within a large, multi-location, matrixed organization.
- Driving the achievement of project goals and milestones, even in complex or uncertain situations.
- Applying your expertise, customer insights, and strong engineering and clinical judgment to inform project decisions.
- Managing senior engineers and other managers involved in various product development and technology exploration initiatives.
- Providing mentorship and coaching, with a focus on ensuring career development plans are in place for direct reports.
- Collaborating with core teams to establish objectives and assess the progress of direct reports.
- Overseeing the functional cost centre budget and managing resource allocation.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and external standards and guidelines.
- Innovating and developing unique solutions to both engineering and organizational challenges.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- A Level 8 Degree in Engineering or a related field is required, with a Master’s/PhD preferred, along with at least 10 years of relevant engineering experience in a similar environment.
- A minimum of three to five years of direct managerial experience overseeing engineers, with a demonstrated history of progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Strong skills in team building, communication, and people management.
- A dynamic team player and mentor, capable of working effectively and proactively within a global team.
- Experience in the medical device industry with a proven track record of delivering results.
- Experience in orthopaedics and/or product development in the spine area is preferred.
