We’re currently seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to join a world-leading medical device company at the forefront of innovation in the Structural Heart & Aortic space. Based in Galway, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that improve and save lives.
The Role – Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of new medical devices from concept through to commercialisation
- Drive projects through design freeze, verification/validation, and launch
- Collaborate with physicians to translate clinical needs into innovative design solutions
- Support early-stage research, feasibility studies, and prototype development
- Apply engineering expertise in materials, processes, and anatomy/physiology to create effective solutions
- Identify and manage technical risks throughout the product lifecycle
- Support sustaining engineering and continuous improvement of existing products
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and global suppliers
- Contribute to intellectual property development
- Mentor and guide junior team members; delegate tasks effectively
- Support cross-functional innovation and knowledge sharing within the R&D team
Ideal Candidate – What You Bring
- Level 8 degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or related Engineering discipline
- Minimum 4 years’ direct engineering experience in the medical device sector
- Hands-on experience in medical device product development
- Working knowledge of:
- Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Six Sigma methodologies
- Skilled in working cross-functionally and problem-solving within a regulated environment
- Experience interfacing with clinicians and converting feedback into design requirements
- A collaborative, proactive team player who can also take the lead when needed
