About the Role
The Structural Heart and Aortic division develops minimally invasive solutions that restore proper function and structure of the heart and aorta. These include technologies for the transcatheter replacement or repair of heart valves—aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid—as well as stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections in the aorta.
As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will be a key contributor in driving product improvements, resolving technical challenges, and ensuring continued performance and reliability of released medical devices. You will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders including physicians and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to projects focused on enhancing commercial medical devices.
- Investigate and resolve product complaints through detailed root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical teams to understand product issues and translate feedback into engineering solutions.
- Drive data-driven design improvements using statistical tools and empirical testing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards for all product changes.
- Contribute to innovation efforts, product improvements, and sustaining activities.
- Apply anatomical and physiological knowledge alongside engineering expertise in materials and processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and support a culture of continuous learning and technical development.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality deliverables within budget and time constraints.
- Support intellectual property generation efforts through novel solutions and designs.
Experience & Qualifications
- A Level 8 degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years' relevant engineering experience within the medical device industry.
- Proven experience in commercial post-market engineering or sustaining engineering is highly desirable.
- Strong proficiency in DOE (Design of Experiments), Six Sigma, DFM, and Root Cause Analysis tools.
- Experience working closely with physicians or clinical professionals.
- A strong team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
